Friday, May 18th Tournament Report
Future Sight Limited
By Brom
After a somewhat notable absence from the card shop, but not from the game in general, I came back down to SCC to play in a draft of Magic’s newest set, Future Sight. Tonight there would be a mere eight competitors but nonetheless I needed to get some more of the new set under my belt.
I came with the strategy of building as aggressive as possible as I usually do and as almost everyone does. When I opened my first pack, The first thing I saw and took was a foil Magus of the Moon. It was probably not to helpful in this format but 2/2 for 3 isn’t bad at all. Nonetheless, Mystic Speculation and a pair of Foresees came by so I had to go blue. I also managed two of my favorite common in the set, Infiltrator il-Kor, so that was set in stone. I then got my hands on three Wrap in Vigor which I knew were very nasty cards when used correctly. Pair those with five meaty green guys, (Includes a delicious Quagnoth that was passed to me) and I had the makings of a deck I was quite happy with.

41 Cards
1 Quagnoth
1 Nessian Courser
1 Sporoloth Ancient
1 Riftsweeper
2 Llanowar Empath
2 Kavu Primarch
2 Infiltrator il-Kor
1 Narcomoeba
1 Cloudseeder
2 Aven Augur
3 Wrap in Vigor
2 Petrified Plating
1 Sprout Swarm
1 Mystic Speculation
1 Foresee
9 Forest
9 Island
1 Llanowar Reborn
MATCH 1 - Rick
Rick continued to display his fetish for slivers by bringing an arsenal in what I believe was 5 color slivers. My Infiltrators proved to be my game winners as they went unopposed at his life the entire game and when he tried to mount offenses or defenses against my creatures, I would surprise him with Wrap in Vigors.
I won 2-0
MATCH 2 - Brandon
Brandon showed me nothing but an onslaught of fliers in both games. I couldn’t even hardly touch him. In fact, I believe I didn’t even touch him in our second game. The second game I tried to keep a meaty creature on the field but whenever I tried to equip them with Petrified Plating, they would die or get bounced and the Plating would go on Brandon’s creatures. This just managed to speed up the game for him and teach me a sad lesson.
I go 0-2
MATCH 3 - Cliff
I at least get to play with Cliff to boost my morale after my humiliation with Brandon. Cliff appears to be very new to the game as he was trying to play enchantments at instant speed. He was a firm believer in pumping his lone creature up each game and swinging in one big turn. This accounted for him doing 4 damage to me in our first game and 5 damage in our second with his omega Dryad Arbor!!! -cricket chirp- I however swung with creatures that were naturally 4/4s and 3/3s for a very easy victory
I won 2-0
MATCH 4 - Todd
This was definitely the closest match I would have on the night. Todd played a deck that he said was just full of “tricksies.”(In-text Citation: The Lord of the Rings 2003 Film) It was B/R/W and ran a lot of morph creatures. Todd beat me in the first round and my deck played absolutely perfectly. This was not good for me. The second game, I had a bad hand with a huge number of late game stuff and it was all green and I had all blue mana. Nonetheless I played and got a Looter il-Kor out pretty quick. On turn four, I had green mana and was able to start an awesome chain of Llanowar Empaths into a huge arsenal. Todd just conceded very close to the end of the game. It was now one game each, and second place relied on the last game. The game turned out pretty much the same until we deadlocked near the end of the game. We had similarly low lives and similarly deadly creatures but I swung and my magical Wrap in Vigor caused Todd to outstretch his hand so I could shake it.
I won 2-1
I got second place in a very enjoyable draft. I earned a premium Wonder and 3 additional packs as my spoils which I can’t complain with. Also Cliff, the new kid, called Sohnly a “dick” which is well worth the price of admission. I will see you all soon for some more cardflopping.
