There has been a recent 2HG draft at the shop that we did that did not follow the Wizards or DCI ruling for this format, but still seemed alot of fun. In our version we did not know who our teammate would be until after we had drafted and build our decks. Then a random die role decided out other head.
This is not at all like the version that I have read about online. Here is a general rundown of the 'proper' version for you to decide which seems better:
2 people sign up, one as the primary head.
Both sit down next to each other and open the first of six packs. They look thru them and pick Two cards from this pack and place them face down.
Pass pack, continue until one card is past to the team.
Open packs 2-6 and continue this process.
When its all said and done you have six packs worth of drafting in front of you from which to build two coherant decks.
Both forms seem rather cool and have there own distinct possibilities to decks design and draft...

Well you can do both if you want but I personally won't play in the random partner one just cause some people totally annoy me (we all know who I am talking about ) and would commit suicide the moment I get paired with one of those type of people or I would get paired with someone who never showers and reeks like rotten eggs (once again, we know who I am talking about.) I guess I just like doing it by the book and playing the real way. I suppose there are also different ways we could do the whole thing though too that might be fun and might change my mind from the previous statement.
Here are things off the top of my head.
1) You predetermine your partner (not random) and then strategize and tell each other your plan then you separate and draft your own deck out of three packs and then re-merge and show what you got and then wage war.
2) We could do Kings and Generals if we get enough people.
3) We could do sealed 2HG like they do at PR's and other major Tourneys
No matter how we do it, we need to just do it... I can't get enough of 2HG. It is such a welcome change from playing by yourself. Completely different strategy than going "hmmm...ok need a creature...more creatures...there we go...maybe some removal too...alright...lets see...okay lets slap this together." _________________

the thing about playing 'by the book' is that a couple yrs ago there was no book for 2hg...its was not on the books. any format that is fun could be supported by wizards sooner or later. _________________ Legendary legends of might FTW |
